FAQs: Group tours

What do you consider a group?

Schools, community groups, churches, non-profit organizations, camps, tour companies, and any group comprising 10 or more visitors must make a reservation.

When are group tours offered??

Group tours are offered every weekday for about nine months of the year (fall, spring, and summer). Please see the Group Tours page for more details. Group tours are available at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. on weekdays only.

Do you offer weekend group tours?

Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate any weekend group tour requests.

How much does it cost to reserve a group tour?

Group tours are free to California middle schools, high schools, and college groups! For private, nonprofit, and out-of-state school groups, the following fees will be assessed:

1-35 people: $50
36-50 people: $70
51-70 people: $90
71-100 people: $110
100+ people: Please contact the tour coordinator at (510) 642-5215

UC Berkeley Departments will be charged a reduced fee of $25 per 35 people.

What if the day and time I wish to reserve is unavailable?

Available group tour slots are determined by staff availability and are listed on our reservation calendar. Any tour slot not listed has already been booked, meaning we cannot accommodate any more tours at the specified date and time.

How do I make a group tour reservation?

Group tour reservations are made via our reservation website.

When should I make a reservation?

Reservations for groups must be made at least two weeks in advance. We begin accepting reservations about one month prior to each semester (fall, spring, and summer).

How do I cancel a tour?

If you have your confirmation number and email, please go to the cancel reservation page. If you have misplaced it, please call (510) 642-5215.

Where should we park our bus?

For buses, please drop off your groups at the unloading zone just outside of Sproul Hall on Bancroft Way.  The unloading zone is located at the intersection of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue.  Buses can then proceed to park at the West Crescent at the west entrance of campus at the intersection of Center Street and Oxford Street. If parking in the West Crescent, a driver must remain with the bus at all times in case they are asked to move.

When you arrive, please have one person from your party check-in at the Visitor Center located at 101 Sproul Hall.

Can we make arrangements to eat in a campus cafeteria?

Please call (510) 642-9217 to make group reservations for campus dining facilities.

Do you offer guided tours for elementary school children?

Guided tours are not available for elementary school groups; instead we offer our self-guided CalKids tour, available as downloadable PDFs for both children and their chaperones.

For more about the tours, such as what they cover, accessibility, and admissions information, see the FAQs.
